Crossroads Theatre Company proudly presents: The Grammy Award Winning SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK In Celebration of their 50th Anniversary!

Beautiful People,

Joy Hooks, Julie Ann Lucas, Andrea Pearlman, Guy Davis, Dean Irby and I in addition to a packed house of beautiful, soulful people were blessed to be present for the opening of the TONY Award Winning CROSSROADS THEATRE Season!

Co-Founder and Artistic Director Ricardo Khan introduced us to the New Managing Director, Ezra Ezzard.

We were then introduced to the phenomenal violinist Kersten Stevens. I can’t wait to pick up #QueenRising (her new cd collaboration with Christiam McBride.) She opened our hearts with exquisite renderings and beautiful harmonics.

After a brief intermission like magic, a screen backdrop of Ascended Spirit Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon appeared and we heard her speaking with sign interpretation by Sweet Honey’s Barbara Hunt and Nori Naraoka on Bass.

Then, the Majestic Ensemble of SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK flowed on to the stage adorned in garments and jewelry of aqua blue and white. Tenderly they transported us to Holy Ground.

YES. Somebody Prayed. The Women Gathered. They sang. We Who Believe In Freedom. And we cried and felt the rhythmic sounds of Nitanju, Carol, Louise and Aisha during Living Waters. We joined in singing Alleluia and Let There Be Peace On Earth. And there was so, so, much MORE.

Our hearts were filled with Love as we gathered in the lobby saying our “by for nows”!

In conversation Susan Settles, Crossroads board member said

“…46 years ago Ricardo Khan and Lee Richardson crafted a love machine with the establishment of Crossroads Theatre Company. This is why I’ve been engaged with Crossroads in various roles for the past 34 years. I envision Ezra Ezzard now taking up the torch—an Olympic-sized torch—and racing around the globe to share the love.” WOW!
