Restauranteur, Visionary Entrepreneur and a CoAuthor of GOOD IS POWERFUL BEYOND MEASURE, Michael Vann reached out to his dear friend, internationally renowned artist, Ousmane Gueye and suggested that we connect during my time in Senegal. The Master Sculpteur, Agriculture Specialist and Architect graciously agreed. Meeting his lovely wife Amal and his 8 month old daughter was truly a tender inspiration.
Ousmane Gueye was mentored by the internationally respected Léopold Sédar Senghor, a cultural theorist and poet who served as the first president of Senegal from 1960 to 1980.
I marveled at the connection because Leopold Senghor was also a close friend to one of my important mentors, dance icon and Visionary Miss Katherine Dunham.
I can see the influence of former President Senghor on Master Sculpteur Ousmane Gueye. He too is a Visionary and is passionate about honoring people of the diaspora.
After an award-winning artistic career in New York City, Mr. Gueye has returned to his Senegalese roots. He wants to give back to the country of his birth and honor the many ways the culture has inspired him.
Currently he has undertaken three massive projects.
President Faye has granted him land to create a museum close to the new airport in Theis and he is working to get worldwide investors to support this project which will employ multitudes and also help with the economy of the region.
He is also creating a Sculpture Garden and which employs state of the art agricultural ideas along with his creative vision. To fund this project he is preparing to launch a major international show of his artistic collection.
Mr Ousmane Gueye’s presence here in Senegal is a gift. His home enriches his community with intricate woodwork, celestial metal carvings and trees outside. Inside it is an artistic wonder in progress! The manifestation of his vision will be extremely impactful for generations to come! Your Support Is Welcomed!
