Looking back, I realize I was born in a time of change in the United States.
1954 was the year of my birth and also the year of the #SupremeCourt Case: Brown v. The Board of Education which called for school desegregation. Reknown civil rights attorney #ThurgoodMarshall won the case. Later in 1967 he was appointed as the first African American Supreme Court Justice by U.S. President #LyndonBJohnson.
My MOM, Ms. Betty J Tilman raised me to believe that All People were created equal.
She was a civil rights activist, on the board of the Pittsburgh NAACP for 30 years and a positive community leader.
When I was 7 years old, we moved to Squirrel Hill (Pittsburgh, PA) where there were very few ( if any Black families). I often experienced discrimination. Some people would say or do mean things and call me horrible names.
In August of 1963 there was the historic March on Washington organized by #APhillipRandolph #BayardRustin and many others across the United States.
#DrMartinLutherKingJr made his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
My MOM Betty was a determined Civil Rights Foot Soldier dedicated to bring about positive change for me and many others.
As an African American, my admittance to the 4th grade at Mount Mercy College Campus School ( now The Campus Laboratory School of Carlow University) in September of 1963 was a hopeful manifestation of Dr. King’s dream.
Today, I am thinking about My Ascended Queen MOMBetty and her commitment to Breathe Hope, Justice and Love as we collectively face the manifestation of Evil everywhere we turn.
I know that she would tell me to remember that GOOD IS POWERFUL BEYOND MEASURE.
My MOMBetty would say ‘STAND UP and SPEAK the TRUTH. RESIST EVIL, HATRED and FASCISM.”
I am asking you to do the same.
RESIST EVIL, HATRED and FASCISM.
Do this for All those who died, dreamed, educated, fought and worked for True Equality.
Do what you can in your communities. Protest, sign petitions, donate funds if you are able, attend rallies, Call for IMPEACHMENT and VOTE.
STAND UP, SPEAK the TRUTH.
RESIST EVIL, HATRED and FASCISM.
Because GOOD IS POWERFUL BEYOND MEASURE, We Can and Will Create a Clear Pathway of Integrity with Compassion, Equality, Equity, and GOODNESS!
