An Amazing Visit to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture
Beautiful People,
We had an absolutely 💯 Amazing time at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC.
Though we missed attending the Members Program that I had registered for, it was wonderful to speak with remarkable staff members in the reception area and to tour parts of the museum. We ate in the Cafe.
I was especially grateful to see the multitude of families in attendance, and attentive in learning about our history.
In the afternoon, we attend the wonderful interactive #SNCC Program. While there, I was honored to meet Ms. Lawson, Ms. Richardson and Ms. Crosby and several of the other guests, and be introduced to the important book, HANDS ON THE FREEDOM PLOW: Personal Accounts By Women In SNCC.
I was blessed to reconnect with Nana Malaya Rucker-Oparabea , an artist/activist from Pittsburgh.
I met Andrew Meade McGee (Curator, National Air And Space Museum)who by happenstance let me know that he knew my MOM Ms. Betty J Tilman and mentioned Dr. Trotter, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, whom My MOM greatly admired.
Since she is in the Heaven Realm, It was an emotional moment of Grace for me. I was filled with tears of Joy.
I was grateful to be able to share that the African Heritage Classroom Committee/Nationality Rooms Program at the University of Pittsburgh has a scholarship in Memory of Ms. Betty J Tilman.
You see, because of her respect of Lonnie G. Bunch, III, she deeply held the vision for NMAAHC and was happy to see it realized. She encouraged me to be a member.
I was also grateful to see Adrienne Brooks (First Director of Advancement for NMAAHC)
whom I had met a few years ago at the Apollo with Lonnie G. Bunch, III, Secretary of the Smithsonian.
The World is so small. This morning I was able to convey her greetings to Louise Robinson of Sweet Honey in the Rock. It is the 50th Anniversary of Sweet Honey In The Rock. Like many others, I am holding the Vision for them to perform at the museum again and that I will be in attendance!
